New Hope United Methodist Church
|

New Hope United Methodist Church received the the Rainbow Covenant Award for 2007 for going the extra mile of giving. We became a Rainbow Covenant Church by going the first mile by paying 100% of our apportioned mission gifts (World Service & Connectional Ministries; Episcopal Fund; Interdenominational Cooperation, Black Colleges, Africa University Fund). Our final 5 miles required us to select at least one ADVANCE SPECIAL from each lane indicated below:
LANE 1 - WORLD MISSIONS
LANE 2 - NATIONAL MISSIONS
LANE 3 - MISSIONARY SALARY SUPPORT
LANE 4 - UMCOR
LANE 5 - CONFERENCE ADVANCES
Apportionment Giving
The baptismal and confirmation of The United Methodist Church asks the pastor and others to lay their hands on the newly baptized as they speak these words: "The Holy Spirit work within you that being born through water and spirit, you may be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ." A person received into membership is asked: "As members of Christ´s Universal Church, will you be loyal to The United Methodist Church, and do all in your power to strengthen its ministries?" Apportionment support is one of the ways each of us can be a faithful disciple and strengthen Christ´s ministries. United Methodist Hymnal Baptismal Covenant — Page 37–38.
Historically, the church raises money to support ministry in our Conference and around the world by assigning to each local congregation (through a formula approved by The North Carolina Conference) their fair portion of our shared ministry.
Our Mission Plan
New Hope UMC´s mission plan is based on the following four goals:
1) Make disciples of Jesus Christ as we witness by word and deed.—Acts 1:8
2) Grow and strengthen congregations.—Luke 10:1-2
3) Alleviate human need.—Matthew 25:40
4) Promote justice, peace, and freedom.—Micah 6:8
These goals are related to our Methodism roots in the thoughts and teachings of John Wesley, our 18th century founder. He insisted that Christians pursue personal and social holiness in their faith and witness. He also stressed the importance of Methodists remaining connected in what they did.
Missions is not about programs, it´s about reaching out to those whom Jesus calls "the least of these." It´s about touching the face of God.
