College Ministries

New Hope United Methodist Church has a yearly scholarship fund of $6,000. The Umphlet Scholarship Fund is made possible by Thomas Leonard Umphlet, Pattie Swift Umphlet, and Margaret Douglass Umphlet. The Scholarship Fund is administered by the law firm of Douglass & Douglass Attorneys, 434 Fayetteville Street Mall, Raleigh, NC.

The Scholarship Fund is available to qualified college students who are members of New Hope United Methodist Church. New Hope UMC can give between $500 up to $2,000 to each qualified student. The Church is allotted a total of $6,000 each year.

David & Gayle Godfrey Jessica Jenny Eure

On Sunday, September 2, 2007, at New Hope United Methodist Church, Jenny Eure presented Jessica Godfrey with a $2,000 Umphlet Scholarship. This year Jessica was our only qualified student.

Jessica is majoring in Interior Design with a minor in Art. She is carrying a 3.8 average at Western Carolina University. Jessica is the daughter of David and Gayle Godfrey of New Hope, NC and the granddaughter of James and Mattie Wray Godfrey also of New Hope, NC.
